Sewer Repair in Des Plaines, Park Ridge and the Northwest Suburbs

Told you need a new sewer line? Start with a second opinion

A sewer backup is stressful enough. Hearing that you need to dig up your yard and replace the whole line can make it worse. Before you approve a major project, it helps to know what the inspection actually shows.

Green Tech Plumbing provides sewer repair, sewer excavation, and second opinions in Des Plaines, Park Ridge, and nearby Northwest suburbs. We have completed hundreds of sewer repair jobs. We also regularly inspect lines that homeowners were told were a total loss, only to find that proper sewer rodding could restore flow without a replacement project.

Some lines truly need repair. Others need cleaning. Our job is to help you understand which situation you have and what makes sense next.

Does a sewer backup always mean a broken pipe?

Sewer Repair Work PipeNo. A backup tells you wastewater cannot move through the system as it should. It does not, by itself, prove that your sewer line needs replacement.

Roots, grease, and other buildup can block a pipe. Sewer rodding uses a cable and cutting tools to clear a blockage. Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to clean the line when the pipe’s condition allows it.

Cleaning cannot fix a collapsed pipe, a separated connection, or a section that has sunk and holds water. But a clog should not automatically turn into an excavation job, either.

A camera inspection helps us see the pipe’s condition. If the line is blocked and full of dirty water, it may need to be cleared before we can get a useful view. We explain what we can see, what remains unclear, and whether further work is needed.

Signs your sewer line needs attention

Call for a sewer inspection if you notice:

  • Sewage coming up through a basement floor drain or shower.
  • Several drains slowing down at the same time.
  • Toilets bubbling when another fixture drains.
  • Backups that return soon after the line was cleaned.
  • A sewer inspection report showing cracks, shifted joints, or a collapsed section

These signs help guide the inspection, but they do not tell the whole story. If sewage is actively backing up, stop using water and contact us promptly. Running the washer or taking a shower can send more wastewater toward the blockage.

Before you spend thousands of dollars excavating your sewer, get a second opinion.

second opinion

If another plumber has recommended sewer excavation or full replacement, send Green Tech your camera video and estimate. We will review the footage and give you a free opinion or quote based on what it shows.

We look at the location of the problem, how much pipe appears affected, and whether cleaning or a smaller repair may be an option. A video may not show everything needed for a final quote, so we will explain if a site visit or more inspection is needed.

No video? We can camera the line for you. If you accept our sewer repair quote and have us complete the quoted work, there is no camera inspection fee. If you do not proceed with our quote, you are responsible for that fee.

A second opinion may confirm the first recommendation. It may also reveal a simpler way to solve the problem. Either way, you should understand why the work is being proposed before you approve it.

Can you repair just one section of sewer pipe?

Usually. If damage is limited to one area and the rest of the line is in usable condition, a sewer spot repair may make sense. This involves digging to the damaged section, removing it, and installing new pipe.

If the line has widespread damage or several failing sections, a longer replacement may be the better choice. The goal is to fix the cause of the trouble while considering the condition of the remaining pipe.

We explain the options in plain language. You should know where the problem is, why we recommend a certain repair, and what that repair is expected to solve.

What happens during sewer excavation?

Sewer excavation means digging to reach a damaged underground pipe. Depending on its location, the work may involve a yard, concrete walkway, driveway, or basement floor.

Green Tech handles the project from permit drawings and applications through inspection scheduling, pipe work, and backfilling. We also perform concrete work where it is part of the agreed scope.

Before work begins, we discuss access, the planned digging area, and the surfaces affected. We explain what restoration is included so you know what to expect when the repair is complete.

The work below ground matters as much as the finished surface. The repaired pipe needs sound connections, proper support, and the right slope to carry wastewater away. A complete job addresses those details along with the visible cleanup.

Local sewer repair with the details handled

Our shop is based in Des Plaines, and Green Tech got its start in Park Ridge. We serve homeowners in Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights, Niles, Morton Grove, Glenview, and nearby Northwest suburbs.

Each property presents different challenges. A line beneath a driveway needs a different plan than one beneath an open lawn. Access, pipe depth, and local permit requirements can all affect the scope and price.

Des Plaines homeowners should also check the city’s Sanitary Sewer Lateral Program before work begins. Certain qualifying problems within a public right-of-way or easement may be eligible for limited financial assistance. City review and authorization requirements apply; assistance is not automatic.
